Budgeting for AI was never “easy,” but as financial firms rely more heavily on agents, soaring token usage is forcing them to rethink the economics of modern enterprise AI.

A now-infamous case study for companies incorporating AI into their workflows: according to an Axios report, an unnamed firm ran up half a billion dollars in token fees over the course of a month after failing to put usage limits on Anthropic Claude licenses for employees.

Outlandish and likely an outlier? Perhaps. But some believe it’s also a dire warning going unheeded.
