CME, LSEG align on market data licensing in GenAI era

The two major exchanges say they are licensing the use case—not the technology.

Since ChatGPT opened the generative AI floodgates three years ago, it’s been held up by C-suite executives and researchers as a promise to make their lives easier. But there’s a demographic in financial services where there’s perhaps been more fear than relief: market data managers.

Licenses were already a convoluted and costly exercise for firms. And GenAI, a new, unpredictable change agent, introduced unknowns.
