Markets are now more interconnected than ever, exacerbating some challenges. To help, there are three things firms should focus on, writes Gareth Hughes of Standard Chartered.

Markets have never been more interconnected, continuously traded, or operationally complex. According to the Bank for International Settlements, daily global FX trading reached $9.6 trillion in 2025, reflecting the scale of cross-border capital and risk flows moving through the global financial system. At the same time, fragmentation across FX and market infrastructures is increasingly visible.
