Tale of two halves: Agentic AI and the coming capital markets reckoning

Firms that have built robust rails will be better placed to scale agents safely and improve productivity. Those that don’t will learn a hard lesson, says Andrew Morgan.

Good and bad

Last month, Citadel CEO Ken Griffin told the Stanford Leadership Forum that within his organization, AI agents are doing in hours or days what PhD workers manage in weeks or months. Griffin even said he was “depressed” about the future of the job market, having witnessed the speed at which AI can now handle even complex work.

Griffin wasn’t alone. In the same week, Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters made similar prognostications, along with top-level executives at Goldman Sachs and HSBC.
