Reuters Surprises Analysts With High Earnings

Reuters Holdings PLC has surprised many analysts by posting higher-than-expected revenue and earnings figures for the first half of this year. Revenue rose 16% over last year's to more than 548 million pounds sterling ($850 million), while earnings soared 34% to 85.6 million pounds sterling ($132.7 million).

One analyst who wasn't surprised by the good news, Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc.'s Andrew Wallach, attributes Reuters' success to "continued rapid growth outside the U.S., powerful cost
