NewRiver Sues Morningstar Over Data 'Theft'

Electronic prospectus provider New-River filed a lawsuit last Monday, Feb. 2, alleging that Morningstar gained unauthorized access to NewRiver's Prospectus Express database via a private, fee-paid site to copy the vendor's documents.

The lawsuit alleges that Morningstar used "screen-scraping" technologies to steal data from NewRiver, and then used this data to unfairly compete with the vendor. NewRiver is seeking to bar Morningstar from accessing the database and for damages of an unspecified
