A couple of days later, I went to see a play in London called Future Conditional, which suggested that a way to get more children from state-funded schools to attend the best universities and colleges was to order those institutions to offer places to the top student from every school in the country, regardless of their grades, as a way of "leveling the playing field" for disadvantaged children.
