Stop Press: Reuters' Gerald Long Dies At 75

PARIS--Gerald Long, the key architect of modern day Reuters, died at the age of 75 in Paris.

Long was with Reuters for 33 years, taking up the key position as general manager of the then-news agency in 1963. He became managing director of Reuters in 1973, replacing Christopher Chancellor.

During his tenure, he led the company through a dramatic change from a humdrum news organisation to a pioneer in the business of supplying real-time price information to the most demanding consumers on the planet
