US options data is set to exceed 6 billion messages per day by the start of 2008, almost doubling the amount predicted for January this year, according to the latest projections from the Options Price Reporting Authority.

By July, firms and vendors will need to be ready to handle 573,000 messages per second (mps)— a total of 5 billion messages per day—requiring 326.6 megabits per second (mbps) of bandwidth, which will rise to 716,000 mps and 408.1 mbps by next January.
