Salomon HK Cuts 50 of 300 Staff; Three IT Staff Out, Strategy Unaffected

Salomon Brothers two weeks ago cut about 50 of its 300 staff in Hong Kong and trimmed less heavily at its eight other offices in the region outside Japan. Although the layoffs hit support staff hardest, the firm lost just three members of its IT organisation. All three had been based in Hong Kong and will now relocate to the firm's headquarters in New York.
