Barley Makes Transition From Cosmic Rays to Child's Play

LONDON - When Steve Barley was getting his PhD in cosmic ray physics (a combination of nuclear and astrophysics) 16 years ago, his career predictions probably didn't include building a global client data repository for a major investment bank (see story, page one).

However, his next move may see the former head of reference data IT at HSBC become the next JK Rowling rather than the next data czar at a top-tier bank.

Barley plans to leave HSBC on May 19 in order to pursue his dream of writing
