Ever the optimist, I enter 2012 convinced that the economy will recover, firms will return to healthy trading practices, senior management will give market data the same attention as risk management—rather than just viewing it as a cost—and that I’ll follow a flying pig to a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Of course, the truth will probably turn out somewhat different. Though economies are expected to improve, there are still plenty of hurdles to economic recovery for the data industry.
