Chicago-based data and investment research provider Morningstar has named Daniel Needham global chief investment officer for Morningstar Investment Management -- the vendor's investment advisory and outsourced portfolio management division -- and managing director of the Investment Management business in Europe.

Needham was previously MD and CIO of Morningstar Investment Management's Asia-Pacific operations, having joined the vendor via its 2009 acquisition of Intech (now Ibbotson Associates Australia), after which officials say he played a key role in integrating the businesses.

In his new role, Needham -- who will relocate from Australia to London -- reports to Thomas Idzorek, president of Morningstar Investment Management.
