Lane originally joined TT in 2010 when it acquired TickIt Trading Systems, the company he cofounded a year earlier. He left for Google but returned six months later to become CTO, a powerful position at TT, as every division except for sales and legal reported to him. But he never saw it as a stepping-stone to CEO. Harris Brumfield, a former Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) floor trader and majority owner of the company, seemed entrenched as CEO.
