Heartbleed Bug Demonstrates Challenges Around Cyber Security

Heartbleed has left about half-a-million websites vulnerable.

If exploited, hackers can view up to 64 kilobytes of memory on an affected server, according to Netcraft, which will allow them to scrape stored data and retrieve private keys to decrypt the server's encrypted traffic or impersonate the server, itself.

While trading firms don't need to panic, they do need to stay vigilant and talk with their vendor partners to see if there are any potential weaknesses with services offered, says Richard Wilding, director of cyber products at cybersecurity
