CME to Acquire Trayport and Fenics from GFI Group

The transaction will be effected through a merger of GFI Group and CME Group, and a concurrent acquisition of the wholesale brokerage arm by an entity led by the current management of GFI group. The broker-dealer activity will therefore not be retained by CME Group.

The acquisition is in line with CME's strategy to grow in the international energy and foreign exchange markets. The exchange operator already has a number of initiatives under way to grow in those two markets internationally, says
