NEW YORK—CIOs are focused on using technology to improve profitability while also getting a handle on emerging innovations, according to CIOs from major firms who spoke on an industry panel last week.

"There's an intense focus on improving profitability," says Tom Sanzone, CIO for Credit Suisse. A firm's technology team now has a great opportunity to play a big part in the growth of the business and in improving efficiency, he says.
