Howard Ertel has left his post as chief information officer (CIO) for the New York branch of Societe Generale (SocGen), say industry sources. Ertel could not be reached for comment and SocGen officials did not return calls by press time.
City Consultants in London has hired five senior staff members to expand its management consultancy division. Glen Townsend has been appointed assistant director; he was formerly managing director at Standard Bank Stockbrokers on the Isle of Man. Ian Hart joins CCL from Admiral where he generated management consultancy business in fund management and investment banking. John Kiddy, senior management consultant, comes from Cantor Fitzgerald where he was global risk manager. Doreen Langston joins from Banco Santander where she deputized for the London head of global equity emerging markets, and Wayne Stinton joins from UBS where he was head of operation in the IT department in Paris.
The Cantor Exchange has appointed former US Secretary of the Navy, John Dalton, and real estate developer M. Anthony Fisher to its board of directors. They join Susan Phillips, a former member of the board of governors of the US Federal Reserve System and chairman of the US Commodities Futures Trading Commission, as public directors of the CX. Cantor Fitzgerald and the New York Board of Trade jointly operate the CX.
William Montgoris, chief operating officer (COO) of Bear Stearns, will retire effective, June 30, 1999. As COO, he has responsibilities over IT, among many other departments. The company has not yet named a replacement.
Pat Dolan has left Cognotec in London, sources are unclear as to his next move but are sure he "will land on his feet."
