Some vendors hope that technology born in the days of CORBA and COM will deliver business process management from its critics.

For the past year or two, business process management has been a buzz-phrase. Its promise has been that the message-transformation and routing of "old middleware" would be replaced by templates and rules that would automate commonly repeated business functions. And the verdict from some of the early adopters was that it was like pouring concrete over business processes.
