Tabb: Fragmentation Now the Norm

The fragmentation enables traders to try to find profitable order flow, but it also creates a more complex and technology dependent marketplace, says Larry Tabb, the research note's author and CEO and founder of Tabb Group.

"The market structure is getting increasingly complicated, and the markets are not going to consolidate," says Tabb.

The matching venues are faster than ever before, according to Tabb. The average New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) floor execution time was approximately 14 seconds
