Sun Microsystems Unveils Hybrid Platform

NEW YORK—Sun Microsystems debuted hybrid data processing and high-capacity storage platforms as well as server blades last week in a move that may be just in time for Wall Street, say industry observers.

Sun unveiled three 64-bit, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Opteron-based servers, including the Sun Fire x4500, dubbed project Thumper, as its first "hybrid data server" because its combines processing and storage. The other offerings, dubbed Sun Fire x4600 and the Sun Blade 8000 modular system
