Equinix Preps Osaka Datacenter
Datacenter and hosting provider Equinix is to start building its fifth Japanese datacenter facility this year in Osaka.
The new datacenter, dubbed OS1, will ultimately provide 32,000 square feet of space -- enough to house more than 800 server cabinets -- to support co-location and interconnection services, and access to the ecosystem of more than 4,000 clients and partners in Equinix datacenters worldwide, and will be built over several phases, the first of which will be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
Equinix is building the new facility with K-Opticom, a network provider serving the Kansai region of Japan, and Kanden Energy Solution for access to Kansai Electric Power Company.
Equinix already operates three datacenters in Tokyo, and plans to open a fourth next month in response to high demand for datacenter services.
