Asia Awards 2025: Best performance measurement and attribution product—Finastra

Finastra wins best performance measurement and attribution product in the 2025 Asia Awards.

Asia Awards 2024

Overview

Finastra’s Fusion Invest combines private and public market investments, allowing portfolio managers and performance officers to access performance analytics (time-weighted and money-weighted internal rates of return) in a single dashboard. When paired with top-down analysis, Fusion Invest can also generate ex-post risk indicators/factors and performance multiples across both public and private markets.

The platform is designed to provide C-level personnel, portfolio managers and risk/performance departments with the transparency they require into performance numbers/reports, including look-through on funds including ETFs and granular instrument return decomposition.

Fusion Invest performance attribution brings clarity and efficiency to investment managers. Having performance attribution fully integrated in their investment book of record (IBOR), teams collaborate better, reducing costs, and improving analytics and reporting. Today, to generate returns and reduce costs, our clients increasingly invest in private markets and passive investments. They find Fusion Invest particularly fit-for-purpose with its private markets analytics and look-through option for ETFs and externally managed funds

The solution

Unlike best-of-breed performance and attribution platforms, the Fusion Invest performance module is integrated into Finastra’s investment book of record (IBOR). Therefore, there is no need for additional data reconciliation, which means performance, investment and risk teams receive fresh and accurate performance analytics with minimum delays. At a time when private markets and ETFs are popular across the industry, Fusion Invest is one of the few platforms covering public and private markets and supporting fund look-through.

Secret sauce

  • IBOR consolidation of public markets, private markets and derivatives combining time-weighted and money-weighted performance analytics in one dashboard
  • Broad asset class coverage with pricing models. Fixed-income performance attribution (FIPA) incorporates configurable repricing methodology to explain performance and minimize residual effects.
  • Fusion Invest attribution dashboard offers transparency over absolute/relative performance with the option to drill down at the subcomponent level for ETFs or funds invested in-house or externally.

Recent milestones

  • Performance attribution with look-through on ETFs and externally managed funds, supporting sourcing and data management of constituents, and Brinson effects based on constituents
  • Scalability and cloud services enhancements, including cloud managed services
  • MS Power BI connectivity offers an interactive and portable view of investment returns, enabling filtering by time period, effect, etc.

Future objectives

  • Finastra will focus on enhancing the user experience (UX) while maintaining its solution differentiators—it will refine its features, while simultaneously improving the overall UX to make its solutions more intuitive and user-friendly.
  • Strengthening high-value services, including cloud managed services and testing services, enabling clients to concentrate on their core functions.
  • Innovation will focus on exploratory AI use-cases for data management, scalability, and performance analysis.

Why they won

Buy-side firms are evaluated on one criterion more so than any other: performance. However, attributing performance to specific parts of a portfolio as a means of identifying the sources of return is fast becoming similarly critical across the buy side as investors look to assess portfolio managers’ performance against their investment objectives.

This is Fusion Invest’s bread and butter and one of the contributing factors of why the London-based firm that owes much of its success to its Misys heritage emerged top in this ever-competitive category. The Fusion Invest performance module is integrated with the firm’s IBOR platform, reducing the need for complex and time-consuming reconciliation. The platform effectively presents its users with a single, front-to-back investment management platform designed to deliver accurate and timely performance and investment data with a minimum of fuss.
