Reliance on brokers for equity trading on the rise

The new Tabb Group report, Institutional equity trading in America 2007: Divining a path to liquidity, cites a confluence of several factors - hidden or dark liquidity, market fragmentation, geographic diversity, instrument complexity and technology req-uirements - as complicating buy-side equity trading operations just as traders were getting a handle on more autonomous tools available to them such as DMA and algorithmic platforms.
