Bear market slows adoption of Fix

The Financial Information Exchange (Fix) protocol has evolved into one of the most significant business enablers for the financial services industry since Fidelity Investments and Salomon Brothers investigated how to automate certain trade processes between themselves in mid-1993. But, contrary to the findings of the European Fix User Survey 2002, Fix adoption on the buy side is being hampered -- albeit temporarily -- by the continuing bear markets. By Victor Anderson
