Nyfix Takes the Linux Leap

Although financial firms have been moving more critical applications from proprietary operating systems to open-source Linux for several years now, the 2004 Linux on Wall Street conference in New York this April may have been the site of a milestone.

Transaction services vendor Nyfix, which connects brokers with each other and with liquidity pools, will be an entirely Linux shop within five years, an official told attendees.

All of the major Nyfix applications will be ported to the Intel-Linux
