Could "Softing and Bundling" Come to an End?

In April, the UK’s Financial Services Authority (FSA) proposed a ban on "softing and bundling," the UK’s equivalent of soft-dollar payments for investment research and services such as data technology. The FSA argues commonplace practices compromise the relationship between brokers and fund managers and create conflicts of interests that need to be eliminated so that fund managers can be more accountable to their clients and ultimately to investors.
