"There was a limited window of opportunity for success and when the large exchanges started investing billions of dollars into their systems, the window closed," says an exchange spokesperson.
Although the BSE has closed down its equities exchange business, its decision will not affect the operations of the Boston Options Exchange (BOX) or the LeveL alternative trading system (ATS), say exchange officials. "BOX and LeveL ATS are doing quite fine," adds the spokesperson.
