In recent years, the mandatory reporting function has been driven by European laws and directives-in particular the E.U.'s Investment Services Directive and the Market Abuse Directive, says Cubillas Ding, a senior analyst with financial research firm Celent. From the end of 2007, the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (Mifid), and any subsequent domestic regulation implemented under it, will govern transaction reporting in the E.U., Ding says. The FSA refers to transaction reporting
