Lai Keynote: Why Local Vendors Fail

Stephen Lai, chief executive of Singapore-based data vendor NextView, highlighted the challenges facing local data vendors that rely on outdated business models in the Asia-Pacific region in his keynote speech at IMD Asia.

The vendor landscape in the region is highly fragmented, typically with only one or two vendors per country—except in Hong Kong, which has more than 100—and is dominated by Reuters and Bloomberg, he said. And while some think fondly of this as a "David versus Goliath" situation
