Charles Schwab & Co. may be the first firm to put high-powered UNIX-based Sun Microsystems Inc. workstations on retail brokers' desks. The discount broker last week selected as-yet-unannounced hardware from Sun for both its market data server and broker workstation platform, ending a rigorous platform evaluation project under way since last year.
