SEC Finds Little Threat To NMS From Off-Exchange Trading

THIS WEEK'S LEAD STORIES

The Securities and Exchange has found that computerized off-exchange trading systems tend to reduce transaction costs and thereby further the goal of economically efficient executions. The systems also further the development of the National Market System, as mandated by the Securities Exchange Act amendment passed in 1975, the SEC says.

The SEC's made its opinions known in a memo responding to a letter from Edward Markey (D-Mass.) that asked the SEC to explain the state of automated securities
