DEC Responds To IBM With New RISC Workstations

Speed isn't everything. That's the message Digital Equipment Corp. tried to send last week when it pitched its new line of RISC-based workstations and servers as the most "balanced" systems on the market. Coming on the heels of IBM's latest RISC announcements (TST, March 26), DEC's new DECstation and DECsystem machines appeared conspicuously slower on paper than Big Blue's new RS/6000 Powerstation and Powerserver machines.

But the speed factor shouldn't bother workstation customers, DEC believes
