Routing Key to ArcaEx-PCX Merger

CHICAGO—Whatever comes from the grafting of their trading environments, officials of the Archipelago Exchange (ArcaEx) and Pacific Exchange (PCX) will be keeping their eyes on ArcaEx's crown jewel of smart routing.

As a result of their merger announced last week, ArcaEx and PCX will have to meld platforms that exploit technologies from Sun Microsystems and Microsoft. Their goal is to provide one-stop shopping for the electronic trading of equities and options.

The two will have to create new links
