Microsoft Shifts Up A Gear: Scalability Day Demos Highlight 1 Billion Transactions Per Day Using NT

Microsoft late last month turned part of the Equitable Building in New York into a giant datacenter to support its high-profile Scalability Day. The event was designed to promote Microsoft's operating system and database software as scalable across the enterprise, and as alternatives to Unix and mainframe-based systems. Among the demos of the day, Microsoft showed Windows NT and SQL Server handling a billion transactions per day, and searching a terabyte database.
