Euronext Preps Fee-Free European Indexes

Euronext will not charge firms to license the indexes, providing that they are using the indexes to create new investment products.

Michael Hodgson, head of information services at Euronext, says that with rising index licencing fees and associated index data fees, and with access to key data elements only available on a chargeable basis, the industry is not currently meeting the needs of clients. Thus, as trading firms look for cheaper alternatives, Euronext will launch an alternative index model that will be open-source, by which the exchange means fee-free for use as the basis for new products, Hodgson says.
