On April 1, 2014, Options IT announced it was beginning construction on a datacenter in Iceland to shorten the roundtrip time for low-latency arbitrage trading between Europe and the US. The plan seemed brilliant and mildly insane. Well, turns out it was an April Fool’s Day joke that backfired and irritated journalists and editors (our own Anthony Malakian has steadfastly refused to talk to the company ever since). But, as Iceland’s datacenter landscape explodes, who’s laughing now?
