The public market data formula is coming to private markets

As interest in private markets grows, S&P Global, Bloomberg, and ICE are including increasingly valuable data in their offerings.

The frenzied attention paid to private markets by a wider set of capital markets participants has been building for years. 

In 2024, BlackRock purchased Preqin, a UK-based private markets data provider, for $3.2 billion, roughly 13 times the size of the vendor’s $240 million revenue that year. Some wondered why BlackRock would pay that much, and the answer was simple: private markets were booming.

That year, BlackRock projected the value of alternative assets to reach almost $40 trillion by 2030
