Manuela Veloso, the former head of artificial intelligence research at JP Morgan, is comparing the arrival of AI to an earlier general-purpose technology—electricity—which, too, faced its doubters.
Her point is that the uses of electricity that today we take for granted were impossible to conceive at the time.
“Can you imagine people thinking: ‘We can have hairdryers, we can have refrigerators, we can have electric cars?’”
