Looking back, it was a tough year. Customers cut costs and employees, and market data vendors responded by cutting their own prices, extending discounts and making layoffs as well.

But there were also some bright spots. Exchanges rolled out more and more data products, many of them offering increasingly complex looks at the marketplace as they sought to improve transparency. Smaller vendors took advantage of the difficult market to appeal to cost-cutting firms and grab market share, however slim
