Many firms have launched initiatives to create an industry-wide collateral-processing framework to help improve the transparency and mobility of collateral assets.
The fear of a potential collateral deficit that could reach trillions of dollars and increased regulatory pressure mandating more transparent collateral reporting has pushed the industry to (finally) react to the collateral management challenge it is facing. But the main concerns are no longer around the availability of those securities to meet margin calls, but rather about how firms will be able to mobilize their collateral securities and utilize them optimally.
