Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. is performing a so-called trial evaluation of Magnus Software Corp.'s Securities Management System (SMS). The insurance company is testing Magnus' portfolio management and accounting system to see if it can support the firm's traders, portfolio managers and investment accountants in its New York and Atlanta-based offices. If MetLife selects SMS, it will install the system in place of its incumbent, the former Insurance Systems of America's mainframe-based Oscars-
