After 2002, Are Market Data Vendors Ripe for the Picking?

As one might expect during a year in which the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 17 percent, the value of the publicly owned market data vendors declined, too, and by a greater amount. The market capitalization for the nine market data vendors listed below was $46.5 billion based on year-end closing prices. That’s down 24 percent from $61.1 billion at year-end 2001. Reuters paced the group with a 65 percent decline, followed by HyperFeed Technologies, which was down 51 percent. McGraw-Hill
