Connectivity: FIX Gets Ubiquitous in 2004

NEW YORK—The FIX financial communications protocol was everywhere in 2004. From high-end algorithmic trading transactions to now-mundane indications of interest (IOIs) for equities trading, the FIX standard lived up to its promise of ubiquity.

Among the vendors and user firms, FIX moved fast beyond equities and reached out to fixed-income, foreign exchange (FX) and derivative instruments. It has successfully found a place in the XML camp and could quickly move into the back-office processing
