William Donaldson was named to the post of chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. He will replace John Phelan, who will retire at the end of the year. Richard Grasso, president and chief operating officer at the NYSE, will succeed Richard Shinn, executive vice chairman, who also retires at year end. Donaldson lists the exchange's use of new trading technologies among his challenges.
