CMQ Goes To Telerate

CMQ Communications Inc., one of the few privately held quote vendors in North America, has been acquired by Telerate, Inc. for US$75 million. International Thomson's protracted campaign for CMQ was stymied at last possible moment as Telerate exercised a contractual right to acquire the Canadian firm.

Primarily a defensive move to preserve revenues flowing from long-term distribution rights to its own product, Telerate's purchase nonetheless creates certain business development opportunities.
