In the run up to President Trump’s sweeping reciprocal tariff regime—colloquially known as Liberation Day—a bank in Australia was discussing vendor lock-in and risks. Should the bank be worried about its reliance on so-called US Big Tech companies like Amazon, Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle?

An executive at that bank says that during the height of tariff uncertainty, there were internal talks about alternatives to these tech titans. Eventually, Trump imposed a 10% tariff on many Aussie goods
