Database Server Wars: Microsoft Offers Migration Path Away From Sybase To Its SQL Server

Microsoft is on a campaign to lure capital markets users of the Sybase SQL Server version 4.9 to Microsoft SQL Server version 7.0.

Microsoft rationalizes that since Sybase will no longer support its legacy SQL Server after 1998, this migration path should be an important alternative for Sybase users. Microsoft also notes that it jointly built its server with Sybase (even though the two companies officially ended this partnership in April 1994).

The push into Sybase's customer base should not come
