While the US has recently seen a drop in chief data officers (CDOs), the trend is the opposite in Australia. Earlier this year, Melbourne-based Tony Nicol was appointed chief data officer in the wholesale banking division at National Australia Bank, and in April, Sydney-based Jean Claude El-Sabbagh took a new role with data oversight at Westpac. At Macquarie, Sydney-based Dara Lyne heads both market data and reference data in the securities business, and is also often referred to as a CDO by
