Toronto Exchange Dips Into Shallow Dark Pools

The Toronto Stock Exchange's (TSE’s) new dark order types enter a still-nascent space in the Canadian markets—but one that has potential.

The existing Canadian dark pools—Liquidnet, MatchNow and Chi-X—account for only 2.7 percent of total volume, according to Renée Colyer, CEO of Forefactor, a Toronto-based consultancy. "Approximately 20 percent of our market volume is still upstairs,” Colyer says. “Maybe if buy-side individuals trading all those blocks feel comfortable with new dark order types
